David Bowie - Life On Mars Now she walks through her sunken dream To the seat with the clearest view And she's hooked to the silver screen But the film is a saddening bore For she's lived it ten times or more She could spit in the eyes of fools As they ask her to focus on Sailors fighting in the dance hall Oh man! Look at those cavemen go It's the freakiest show Take a look at the Lawman Beating up the wrong guy Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know He's in the best selling show. Is there life on Mars?
This page is dedicated to making the inside of my computer look good. I'm not talking about modding the inside of my case here. I never have any company, so no one really sees my computer except me. And I spend enough time inside the case cleaning out cat hair anyway. No this is about modding my XP operating system. Since I look at the stuff on my screen a lot, I decided to spruce it up a bit. Change how all those little boring things look. This basically requires messing around with 3 files in my windows folder. ntoskrnl.exe is the main operating kernel for XP. explorer.exe changes the wording and look of some buttons and tool tip items, and logonui.exe covers the logon screen, where you sign in after the ugly XP boot screen with the MS flag blowing. So here is a little guided tour of my windows XP, or what is now called Alien XP. Being a space nut of course it is a space theme. However I am walking a fine line here. In other words I am not a Trekie, and tried to avoid going there, as much as possible. There are sites you can go to like ThemeXP where you can get the screens pre-made, but doing it yourself is more rewarding. The Boot Screen is very grainy. That's because MS uses a special 16 color palette, so it's hard to get an image that reproduces decently. Anyway enough of that, time to have a look. Click on thumbnails to view full size. WARNING! There are some swear words in here, so if that is gonna bother you, or if you are under age then please stop here! I definitely don't want any mamas yelling at me. I have ex-wives that do a good enough job at that already, thank you!

Did you know that much of the fan noise is caused by wind blowing through the vent holes. You can see how I cut away much of the metal vent holes. This decreases noise and improves air flow. The rear fans (on the right) have since been replaced by one 120x120x35mm Sunon fan with 98 CFM air flow at 35dBA The fans on the left are the front intakes. The dust filter has been removed. The blue is the filter holder and fan mount.
